The Atlas Six by Olivie Blake

 I was REALLY hoping this would blow me away like the first Olivie Blake book I read: Masters of Death  .  I think that dream probably hurt my appreciation.  I found it hard to get into at first but by the end, I was aware that I needed to read book 2.  

The characters all possess pretty amazing magical abilities.  Two can manipulate the physical world, one can read/enter minds, one can read/manipulate emotion, one can see energies.  I most enjoyed the naturalist.  Plants communicate with her.  They LOVE her.  She is TIRED of them.  "She wanted literature, and, more important, the freedom it brought to think of something that did not gaze at her with the blank neediness of chlorophyll,"  "She had mentioned once that certain types of English lawns had a tendency to be excessively entitled."  I guess I expected more independence from organisms that can synthesize their own glucose....

 OK.  It didn't take me an entire year to compose this.  Most of a year, sure.  But, less than 12 full months.   And, I think I've found a title for the blog.  Well, something about Tripping to School.  It doesn't make a whole lot of sense on its own, but refers to the blessed 12 minutes I get to myself each day as I drive home from dropping my son off to catch the bus to his new school.  At the beginning of the year it was even more miraculous because our district superintendent hadn't organized the neighboring district to provide transportation (to yet a third district!) and so I had a 30 minute drive for contemplation and soaking in the scenery.  Now I have less transportation expense but less private time.   Anyway, in keeping with this inspired title (the school title not the Post 2 title - which is way weak), I will be using this blog to record those random thoughts and inspiring views.
