Zombies of the Gene Pool (Jay Omega) Mass Market Paperback – January 23, 1993

No better price found

In the 1950s, a group of young science fiction writers, dreaming of literary immortality and calling themselves the Lanthanides, buried a time capsule with their stories and relics from the time. Now, in the 1990s, when several of them have become famous, the surviving Lanthanides are getting together at a special convention to dig up the capsule and open it. But the convention is startled by the appearance of a writer who was supposed to have died thirty years ago. Then murder materializes to throw the agenda further into chaos. Now, Jay Omega, author of Bimbos of the Death Sun, and his significant other, Dr. Marion Farley, must separate science fact from fiction -- and unearth a killer with a story of his own to tell.

In a fit of age-related (at best stress-related) memory loss, I COULD NOT remember what the third book I had borrowed from the Greenville Public Library near Halloween.  I KNEW it was a book written by an author I was currently interested in.  I KNEW it was a Halloweeny title. And, I knew it contained amusing anachronistic moments - that is, if I still correctly recall the meaning of anachronistic.  But from there, I was stuck.  I went into the library and I asked if I could access my borrowing history.  "No, but you will be able to do that after next week."  (They are installing a new system that will record history but not yet.  And, of course, it won't reach backward from the point of installation.)  So, I assumed it was going to remain a blank spot in my book list.

Then I found the quote I had scribbled on a sheet of scrap paper that I wanted to include in this blog.

Then, I lost that quote.  (Still, lost.)  I did, however, recall something about the title  (Zombies) and the author (McCrumb).  So, I did what even the feeble minded can do- I did a google search to find the title.  Ta Da!  And the first two entries provided me with the synopsis (synopses? what is plural - I know - I can google that!) above.

Yep.  HOW???  The Amazon account it the book I read.  Where the F*%$!! did that "Books Tell You Why" get their information??  Maybe they meant to call themselves just Books....Why????  For the record, I'd have preferred that book to the one I read.  Mystery.  Meh. Facing undead, fears and prejudices - intriguing.
